about

After tasking himself to write a song representing each stage of grief, Jack began with ‘Acceptance’ to focus on the process’ cyclical nature. Following 'Jigsaw' (Acceptance), 'Plastercast' (Anger), 'God' (Bargaining) and 'The Emperor' (Depression), Jack returns with the final installation, 'Tower' (Denial), completing a project that has been 365 days in the running, and setting the stage for the full concept album coming in 2022. In Tarot, the Tower card heralds the beginning of unforeseen change, crisis and destruction. Jack chose this to represent Denial, focusing on the song’s themes of slow change, misinterpretation and naive optimism.

lyrics

You’re the tourist in my walls
I made a bed for
Forgetting that you rarely sleep
Did I catch you stuck in my fence last night?

I idolised you with art in the halls
You prefer to buy the postcard
Taking pictures on your holiday
Picking wire out of your palms

The signs were there
Too deep in prayer

I built our castle tall
She won’t fall from my walls

And she has such thirst for life
A taste I’m used to spitting out

I saw the mud under your nails
But I was scared to confront it
You’re stealing hours from the morning light
No consequences that could stop this

No one could ever make me happier
Or understand me like I know you, do
You remember what he tasted like?
After you jumped and I fell after you

No, she won’t still
Or ever call me home
Though nothing ever leaves this world alone
I still can’t face the tide, I hold in my hands
Or this feeling that she’ll never understand

I built my castle tall
She won’t fall from my walls
I built my castle tall
She won’t fall from my walls

Had I been paying mind
I’d have seen the ladders in her eyes
